Wrinkle Prevention and Reduction

What is Xeomin (pronounced "Zee-oh-min") and how does it work?

Xeomin is a second-generation botulinum toxin and has been used successfully in other countries since 2055.  The Skin Sanctuary is using this purified version and have found it to be a great alternative to Botox (although Botox is also offered and other botulinum toxin strains may be available if prescribed for a patient).

How do facial wrinkle treatments work?

Facial wrinkle treatments performed at The Skin Sanctuary using Xeomin involve temporarily relaxing select facial muscles, limiting their ability to fully contract and effectively smoothing and reducing the appearance of frown lines.  This involves the injections (using a tiny micro needle) of a miniscule amount of incombotulinumtoxinA, which is an FDA approved botulinum toxin type A. After all these injections, all untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to remain unaffected.

How long before I can resume normal activities?

Following a treatment, normal activities can resume immediately as long as you remain in an upright position and avoid any facial massages.

How long before I see results of a treatment?

The results of the Xeomin injections are not instant.  Improvement is gradual and usually begins within 2 to 3 days, with a final result achieved in about one week.  In most cases, the treated wrinkles will relax and soften, producing a younger, well-rested appearance.  Although the improvement varies with each person, the result may last 3 to 4 months or longer.

How many treatments may I need?

Our lifestyle factors play a role in this as well as hormonal changes. The aim of Dermal fillers is to create a refreshed expression that respects your unique facial character. As well as restoration, Vanessa offers beautification treatments to support facial harmony and balance. Vanessa understands her responsibility to create a positive psychological impact, therefore your treatment results may be achieved over multiple appointments.

Will there be any visible swelling or bruising and what is the recovery period?

It is important to note that Dermal fillers have a period of time required to integrate into your tissue, so if you are planning treatment for a special event it is best to allow a minimum of 4 weeks to allow any swelling, bruising to resolve as well as any minor tweaks following your initial treatment.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Please note:

  • That you must not fly for a period of 2 weeks post dermal filler;
  • Advise Vanessa of any planned dental work;
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your treatment will be postponed; and
  • If you have an allergy to bees or wasps you are not eligible to have dermal filler of any kind.
